Social Investment School March 28th Session Report

seminar218

ARUN’s Social Investment School is a seminar to bring you current world trends and the status in Japan, as well as ARUN’s case studies. Financial activities promote industry, stimulate the flow of people and information, and influence social conditions. Our seminar started with the introduction to the recent movement in the finance world called social finance.

One of such movements is called impact investment, or social investment. ARUN has been investing in the businesses which cannot easily borrow from banks. Using such case studies, our discussion expanded from the participants’ questions such as how to think of social business, how the financial return works in the social investment, and how appropriate social evaluation is and how to use it.

Definitions and methods of social investment have not been fully established, and different organizations are taking their own approaches. On the other hand, reports from the Rockefeller Foundation and JPMorgan indicate that the impact investment market is steadily expanding, and we should be paying attention to the global acceleration of this movement. In India, a large scale event called the Sankalp Forum is held this week. In the Social Investment School, we will keep you updated with such current trends.
