Forward Satoko Kono, President

Thank you for your continual support for ARUN.

ARUN is a Limited Liability Company with 82 investors (private and incorporated).

We aim to support social enterprises in Cambodia through investments, while building a social investment platform originating in Japan.

Social Investment International Symposium is around the corner! (October 6th and 7th, 2012).

We shared the details of the program in this Newsletter. Please register today!

It has been a very hot summer, and I hope everyone is well.

ARUN hosted a Social Business Competition in Cambodia. Twenty students from Cambodia, Myanmar

and Japan had participated.

One of the characteristics of ARUN’s business competition is to recognize the importance of the local setting. Participants start by visiting Phnom Penh and surrounding rural areas, and through interviewing entrepreneurs and farmers, they learn the reality of Cambodian society.

Second, the participants can learn directly from the entrepreneurs and business persons. Not only having chances to interview the entrepreneurs, they also had opportunities to receive individual advices from the members of Oikocredit, CJCC and Kinyei.

Third, the competition is an opportunity for global human resource exchange. Students from the three countries share the joy and hardship of shaping ideas, fostering true understanding and trust for each other. It is our hope that through such opportunities, young people become more interested in social investment and grow as entrepreneurs.

The video of the Business Competition is available from the link below.

Lastly, I would like to thank sincerely for the support from the Mitsubishi UFJ International Foundation and everyone involved in the project from Cambodia, Myanmar and Japan. Satoko Kono

4. Partner’s Essay

Hooked on TED S・Y

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I am S・Y. As I was told that I could write about anything, I would like to tell you about TED (http://www.ted.com ).

Many of you probably know it already, but TED is short for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It’s mission is to broadcast “Ideas Worth Spreading”. You can watch interesting presentations on society, politics, education, technology and art by various individuals with intriguing ideas including some well-known people, for free.
