ARUN is a Limited Liability Company with 84 investors (private and incorporated).

We aim to support social enterprises in Cambodia through investments, while

building a social investment platform originating in Japan.

ARUN LLC. was established in December 2009, and we are celebrating our 3rd

year.

We thank you sincerely for the support and cooperation each of you have given

us for the past years.

This year, ARUN organized the International Symposium on Social Investment,

the first kind in Japan.

It was a great success, with our special guests; Cambodian entrepreneurs ARUN

invests, representatives from the Oikocredit of the Netherlands, the Acumen Fund

of the United States, and the Aavishkaar of the India. We deepened our

understanding of the world trend of social investment, broaden our network and

clarified our homework.

We presented the Social Impact Evaluation Indicator, on which we have been

working since our establishment. At the International Symposium, we received

many comments and interest, and though it is still in the pilot stage, the NPO

Kamonohashi Project is going to try our Indicator with their project in Cambodia

and India.

We are looking forward to receiving their feedback and improving our methods

to measure and evaluate social impacts.

We are also expanding our target, from just one country, Cambodia, to Cambodia’s

neighboring countries and have started research activities in Laos and Myanmar.

In Myanmar, we witnessed some unique growth in social business. This past

summer, when ARUN LAB held the social business competition, Myanmar

students had participated together with Japanese and Cambodian students.

We are excited to see how these new activities are going to unfold.

Next year, on Thursday, February 7th, we are going to hold the 3-Year Anniversary

Symposium.

Dr. Seiichiro Yonekura, Professor of the Hitotsubashi University’s Institute for

Innovation Research and Mr. Daisuke Iwase, Co-founder and Executive Vice

President of the Lifenet Insurance Company will be our guest speakers.

Together with Professor Yonekura who is well known advocate of social business

and Mr. Iwase, ARUN partner who is always encouraging and cheering us on,

we will explore the ways to scale up social investment.

We are looking forward to your participation!

We wish you a happy and healthy New Year, and appreciate your continuing

support.

<2> Frangipani Opens a New Hotel Field Report by Ms. Ono, Partner

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

One of ARUN’s invested companies, Frangipani Villa Co., Ltd., the company that

promote ethical hotel businesses, opened a new hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodian

capital. Mai Ono, our Partner who travels often between Cambodia and Japan,

visited the new hotel. Enjoy the review of this brand-new hotel!

The new hotel is facing Street 178 near the Royal Palace in the central part of

Phnom Penh. Its charm is the view of the Mekong river and the Palace from the

room balconies and the rooftop pool and bar. Each hotel of Frangipani Villa, both

the interior and the exterior, is designed by one of the managing members and also

an architect, Mr. Chan Theborras himself, and has a different concept.

The concept for the Royal Palace Hotel is the harmony between the tradition and

the modern, the East and the West. The hotel blends well in the scenery of the

surrounding area where it stands, and at the same time, gives the traveler a

comfort like his own room.

Once I said to Mr. Theborras that the concept of harmony between tradition and

modern seems to me like a space for a princess, a room for a beloved family

member, rather than a majestic atmosphere. His response was this;

<3> ARUN 3-Year Anniversary Symposium

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

ARUN is going to celebrate our 3-Year Anniversary with a Symposium.

ARUN LLC started when those who had been committed to the international

corporation and those who worked in the financial and business world met and

shared an idea to “support the realization of the dreams of the social entrepreneurs

in developing countries with social investment”.

Established in December 2009, we have been engaged in the investments of and

in the hands-on support to four Cambodian social businesses, installation of social

investment monitoring indicators, organizing seminars and international

symposiums to promote social investment. We have learned a lot and continue

to move forward in the journey.

To share our gratitude to ARUN’s supporters and friends who are interested in

our activities, we are going to hold the 3-Year Anniversary Symposium.

We will report our past accomplishments and unveil practical strategies for the

future. We appreciate your various inputs and sharing ideas so we will improve.

We are inviting Dr. Seiichiro Yonekura, Professor of the Institute of the Innovation

Research at Hitotsubashi University, and Mr. Daisuke Iwase, Co-founder and

Executive Vice President of the Lifenet Insurance Company as guest speakers.

We are looking forward to your participation in our milestone occasion!

<4> Afterword

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It is the end of the year before we know it. This year, the global businesses have

been paying attention not only to the job creation in the newly developing countries,

but also to the increased unemployment rates in the developed countries. Even,

Apple Inc. in the U.S., whose strength was not to have its own factory, started to

consider factory construction in the United States. It is now obvious that a simple

globalization does not solve problems.

ARUN also needs to advance with bold ideas and practices.
